It's a place: Hongkou

Hongkou area is situated at the north of Suzhou River. I had the chance to visit two places there: Duolun Lu (Duolun Road) and Hongkou Park. Both were very charming and made me feel like I had travelled time.

First of all, let’s talk about Duolun Lu. This street looks like a movie decorum, with typical Chinese antique shops and buildings, maybe even too typical. Actually this might be the reason why just married couples pose not so naturally throughout the street (if you recall my wedding post, you can see one of the women is wearing a red dress as I explained). According to the Lonely Planet, this street is mostly famous because it once fostered left wing writers in the 1930’s, and it has been entirely restored.

Then, I went to Hongkou Park, which is a two-minute walk away from Duolun Lu, to enjoy an ice tea and rest for a while. I was nicely surprised because it seemed like it was mostly frequented by average Chinese people, and not by tourists as a lot of other parks are. I could see old Chinese people playing cards, or Mahjong, a typically Asian game to which I understand nothing about. I also randomly ran into this little group playing traditional Chinese music. It was so natural. Some people just stopped by and started singing with them. My camera couldn’t handle a lot but here is an extract.
