In order to really get the culture, you need to try everything. This is what I told myself before going to the two restaurants I will talk about now.
The first one served Sichuan food. Sichuan is a province in mid-south China. People there eat mainly very (I insist on very) spicy food. So all the red and green you see on the picture, this is pepper… The left plate is yellow bean cake, and the right one is fish head. Imagine putting away fish bones with chopsticks, not so easy. So in name of integration I was nearly burnt to death by this food. However, it was very good and a nice experience.
The second restaurant served Lanzhou food. Lanzhou is a province in North-West China. Islam is quite developed in this part of China, so the traditional food is Muslim (we had to bring our own wine). The best you can have in this restaurant is lamb. But, as you can see on the picture, you get the ENTIRE lamb in a plate with a nice little bow (yes, you see just right, they even left the head and the teeth). It tasted absolutely amazing! At the end, the Chef cut the head in half, and people ate the inside. Remember how I said I would try everything, well yes, I tried lamb brain…it didn’t taste as good as the rest of it.
All together, I am very thrilled I got to taste so many different things in just two days!
PS: for people that couldn't see the video of "It's a journey", I made it public so now it should be OK :)
